Why I love the KonMari Method
Marie Kondo, the creator of the Konmari Method, got my attention with her starting questions for her clients, "What do you want your lifestyle to look like?" Followed by, "What sparks joy?"
In this blog, I get to share my connection of the KonMari method to a lifestyle that matches and enhances my values and SPARK!
Marie's book The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up is excellent! I got a chance to listen to it. And I'm looking forward to buying the physical book soon. Marie has the magic to bring you to a white canvas moment. Organizing, decorating, and designing your ideal home is an art, and Marie has the gift to share how it can be an art and science with the world. It reminds me of the quote I shared last week about Discipline and Freedom being mutually dependent.
Without discipline, chaos has a bigger room to play.
My first memory of discipline or a disciplined person has been my Papa Juan, my grandfather. I grew up with my grandfather until the age of 11. He was one of the first humans that believed in me. We separated because my parents moved to the USA. He was a steadfast man. Regardless of what happened in the house, the neighborhood, the country, or the world, he stood tall and grounded.
We knew his routine and rituals in the house.
Our latest TV series is The Big Bang Theory, and Sheldon reminds me of my Papa Juan. My grandfather was very particular about almost everything. And what stands out the most is his matching pajamas, slippers, and robe. When he got home, he would go to the bathroom to wash up and immediately slip into his favorite outfit.
Lately, I have thought that something about my Papa Juan made me feel safe. As I mentioned above, he believed in me sincerely. He thought I was the brightest and delighted in me when he got back from work to hear all about my studies. One of his favorite questions was, "How easy was that test!" my answer was, "Smooth as butter!" His confidence came from the fact that he knew I was a good student. And by a good student, I mean I studied hard. So his question was a belief and reminder that my work ethic made the results seem simple, or better yet, expected.
And yet, I felt *NO pressure!
You study, you learn, you pass, that simple. In Peru, tests were not multiple choices; they were short essays, and I shared everything I knew to prove my answers. You can say I had a way with words. And you may also be wondering what this has to do with the KonMari Method. It has to do with the words Method and word Discipline. My mother had me in a disciplined routine of schoolwork first before anything else. It was a way of creating boundaries for me and motivating me. How? I knew the weekend was for eating out, sports, and adventure!
Mom's Method Had an Intention for My Week
I am so grateful for these memories because they laid a foundation that I have been able to go back to. It was a seed planted in mind, heart, and spirit. My lifestyle in Peru was well-balanced because of my mom and grandfather. I had to put in the work before I played. And it became a motto. Eating my dinner before dessert lifestyle. Key phrase, put in the work! The KonMari Method is not easy, and it's simple. Put in the workload at the beginning and reap the fruit afterward.
Marie Kondo has come to wake up Western Culture. Yes, you and I. Cleaning and decluttering is hard/heart work. An organized and minimalist lifestyle is a decision and a determination to write down what is important to you and what brings you joy. I have awakened to new adventures and discoveries since encountering Marie's Method, and it starts with and ends with decisions.
Begin choosing today.
Especially if it's difficult for you, if you want something different, do something different. Dare to live by your Values! Go beyond a multiple-choice lifestyle, and learn how to articulate what you want - in writing, even in a napkin! Experience the magic of pen into a tree product. I write when I want to quit and get a job and redirect my focus to doing the work. That is writing to you, making videos, facilitating workshops, and coaching.
Choose your Work
Write down a plan and take action. Choose the KonMari Method, and transform your life from the inside out. Choose my workshops, and apply how to do the work. Make the hard decision today. Choose someone to help you. Remember someone who helped you. Become someone who helps. Choose to do the work.
